As the year-end approaches, various gatherings and events increase, leading to a rise in alcohol sales. At the same time, the distribution of counterfeit alcohol, also known as fake alcohol, that has not been certified as genuine is also on the rise. With the increase in alcohol sales during the year-end and New Year season, the government has been cracking down on illegal alcohol sales online, yet the illegal transactions between individuals continue to be a persistent issue.

According to the National Tax Service’s "Order on the Delegation of Alcohol Communication Sales," selling alcohol online, over the phone, or via email is illegal, except for traditional alcoholic beverages. If alcohol sellers or individuals violate this, they can face fines of up to 20 million KRW. Legal alcohol sales can only be conducted face-to-face at authorized locations by licensed alcohol retailers or equivalent vendors.

While the government is taking measures to curb illegal transactions, concerns exist not only over underage drinking but also over the sale of counterfeit alcohol flooding the black market. For instance, well-known overseas alcohol brands, such as the Taiwanese whisky Kavalan and the famous Maotai, have seen a rise in counterfeit products. Additionally, in the Namdaemun alcohol market, the circulation of fake alcohol and illegal courier transactions are causing turmoil in the market.

To tackle these issues, many domestic and international companies are reportedly adopting the HiddenTag genuine certification solution. There is growing support for actively introducing this solution into the alcohol sales market.

HiddenTag is a genuine certification and anti-counterfeiting solution that uses digital encryption patterns to verify the authenticity of a product by scanning it with an app. This solution is impossible to tamper with and offers protection against counterfeiting in every stage of distribution, ensuring brand value protection.

Furthermore, HiddenTag is being used by over 1,100 customers worldwide, including 124 overseas companies in more than 20 countries, and is available for download on Google, Apple, and the top 10 app markets in China, supporting 7 languages.

A HiddenTag representative explained, “Illegal alcohol sales often involve loopholes, and even consumers with some knowledge of alcohol or those encountering high-end liquor for the first time can easily be deceived online with counterfeit identification methods. To fundamentally address this issue and protect consumers, HiddenTag should be introduced to authenticate alcohol products, ensuring trust among consumers.”
